Performance Drives Progress

By harnessing resources and expertise, we support energy projects from strategic planning through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations. Our service offerings include the following:

Transmission And Distribution (T&D)

Parsons has over 30 years of experience working on transmission and distribution projects. We offer a full range of engineering and design services required to put systems in commercial operation. From new line additions and extensions to capacity upgrades, 5kV through 765kV, we deliver overhead and underground T&D projects. In addition to leading electrification and grid modernization efforts, we help develop and interconnect renewable generation sources. To address critical energy needs in remote areas, we implement reliable and resilient improvements.

Our team includes talented engineers and scientists with expertise in T&D line design and load-flow and short-circuit studies. It also numbers experts in pole-line maintenance and inspection, surveying, power quality, system coordination and protection, and distribution automation. Much is required to maximize efficiencies in T&D lines, and our skilled experts are well versed in the latest technologies, renewable integration techniques and systems, and conservation tools.

Substation

Whether modifying existing facilities or providing greenfield designs for new ones, substation projects pose technical, environmental, regulatory, and physical hurdles—and we’re up for the challenge. We offer a wide range of technical expertise and tools to develop creative solutions that meet your needs and expectations. From medium-voltage commercial needs through 500kV utility applications, we assist with obtaining the required easements, licenses, and permits.

Additional services include the following:

  • Site selection
  • Engineering
  • Gas insulated design
  • Structure design
  • Licensing and permitting
  • Foundation design
  • Grounding plans
  • Equipment specifications
  • O&M plans

We’ve executed and provided professional services for substation projects and programs for over 30 years. Through self-performance and partnerships with industry leaders, we’ve delivered services ranging from program management to design engineering to full engineering, procurement, and construction. We procure the required easements, licenses, and permits our clients need to perform the work, and we have the ability and expertise necessary to make the right decisions and implement the perfect strategies on every project. Our proven project controls systems and intense focus on safety and quality bring projects in on time and within budget.

Hydropower

We offer a full range of services for dams, reservoirs, and hydroelectric facilities. With a total generating capacity of more than 25,000MW, we’ve completed over 100 hydroelectric and water resource projects. The projects cover operating heads from low-head Kaplan bulb and tube turbines to Francis units and high-head impulse units.

Our capabilities also include the following:

  • Conventional high-, medium-, and low-head hydroelectric
  • Pumped storage
  • Dams
  • Spillways
  • Tunnels/caverns
  • Inspections

Renewable Power Generation

The world’s energy market is changing due to limited resources, increasing demands, fluctuating prices, and combatting climate change. Yet Parsons continues to maintain a leading position in the industry. We do this by providing our customers with the most modern and innovative technology for projects across the globe.

Sustainability is one of our core values, and we have a long history of promoting it across our markets. Major energy producers, consumers, utilities, and the federal government seek to reduce their carbon footprints. Our state-of-the-art tools help with this challenge, not to mention our expertise in planning, designing, and building facilities that use wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and alternative fuels.

Gas Transmission, Distribution, And Storage

We’ve completed over 150 pipeline projects that include oil and gas field developments, gas processing plants, and import/export terminals. Other examples involve flood mitigation, pump stations, compressor stations, meters, and storage-tank farms. The 21,000 miles of pipeline we’ve supported includes gas and water that we designed and managed for power plants. These include large-diameter pipelines—with multiple booster stations—that transport oil, gas, refined products, and water for hundreds of miles. We also offer planning, project management, design, procurement, and construction. In addition, we have engineering services such as scoping, front-end engineering design, and detailed design.

Innovative Technology Solutions

Much of the infrastructure that utilities currently rely on are decades old. Power generation and distribution technology hasn’t evolved at the same rate as almost any other industry. With technology solutions that build resilience, streamline maintenance, and improve operations, we’re here to help. Our core services can design, build, and maintain the grid while minimizing its impact on the environment.

AVEVA System Integrator ™
We’re a registered system integrator for AVEVA, a global leader in industrial engineering, design, and information management software. AVEVA’s solutions are deployed at over 100,000 customer sites, and they serve industries such as oil and gas, utilities, refineries, pipelines, substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, water processing, and more. With over 40 trained experts, we offer support for numerous AVEVA capabilities, including the following:
  • Administration CatalogE3D PDMS P&ID Diagrams Electrical Engineering
Laser scanning
We leverage over 20 years of laser scanning experience in myriad ways, including performing building information modeling (BIM) back modeling for retrofit design, monitoring construction progress, checking craft installation tolerance, and creating as-built documentation.
Drone Surveys
Drones are an excellent way to do field surveys. They’re especially useful for large sites, and they outperform traditional survey methods, which often require negotiations with regulators. Our dedicated drone team has successfully performed many assessments of bridge structures and transmission towers. The drones reduce the need for excess equipment and personnel, and they cut the time and cost required to complete surveys as well as reduce the number of safety incidents.
Grid Modernization And Sensors
Starting with relays and sensor equipment, we use state-of-the-art technology to detect and control energy flow between generator and grid. With experience in advanced communications, we’ve helped develop standards for smart meters for grids and testing for limited utility applications. As a result, you can trust that we’ll provide expert, ongoing energy management analysis and studies.
Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity vulnerabilities in utilities present a major security risk. At Parsons, our infrastructure expertise informs our cyber capabilities, providing end-to-end solutions that anticipate, defend, and mitigate cyber threats across the spectrum. We’re the leading supplier of cybersecurity and operational technology security to the US Government and other commercial clients. Thus, we have the expertise and tools to protect and keep your information safe. In addition, we are well versed in IEC 61850 CIP critical infrastructure protection compliance. We ensure each of the programs implements your policy where applicable.
VIQAS™
VIQAS™ Inspect is a centralized web-based system for performing virtual inspections. The VIQAS™ platform collects video and still imagery of a site. It then archives and backs up the data in a secure cloud environment. By logging into the platform from their computers, remote personnel can participate in an inspection in real time. VIQAS™ provides 100 percent traceability by tracking what and where images are, who took them, and when.

Our teams have successfully managed programs of all shapes and sizes. With full-service offerings, no matter the complexity of your project, our team can help make it a success.
