Blueprints of Success: My Path To Engineering At Parsons

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes
From Rubik’s Cubes to Sudoku and Chess to crossword puzzles, I have always enjoyed solving complex problems and taking joy in finding practical solutions. I suppose that is what drove me to pursue a career in engineering in the first place. Once I stepped into the world of engineering, I realized there was so much more to solving problems – it has completely transformed the way I think!
At its core, engineering is about bringing innovation to the world by developing and delivering solutions to complex challenges to make people’s daily lives easier – and to me, those are the types of problems that are most worth solving.
I have an immense sense of pride in calling myself an engineer and truly believe the work we do in our industry has a lasting, positive impact on the world around us.
Getting The Call
When I was contacted by a Parsons recruiter regarding a Junior Project Control Engineer position, I was both excited and nervous. Excited about stepping into a new role with new responsibilities, while nervous about the unknown and unfamiliar. At the time, I was content in my job as a QA/QC Engineer, where I felt I was growing. It was essential to find a role where I could become the Parsons engineer I aspired to be, one that would support my passion for constantly developing new skills and actionable techniques for providing smart solutions to improve community living. During the interview process, however, everything about the role at Parsons aligned with the long-term career goals I had set for myself, and the recruiter was supportive and explained what my responsibilities would be, and the potential for future growth. I decided to embrace the challenge and take a step forward in my career with Parsons.

Making An Impact
Looking back, I’m so glad I did. After just one year at Parsons, I was promoted to Project Control Engineer within the Project Controls team in Abu Dhabi, I earned my first Project Management Institute (PMI) Certificate and I was honored to be selected to receive a Certificate of Recognition for my contributions within the Planning Department, a moment that truly validated my efforts. Now, two years on, I can confidently say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
As an Emirati, being able to use my skills to shape the landscape of the country I call home through the projects Parsons delivers is what gets me out of bed in the morning. This is why I advocate for Parsons as an excellent choice for young Emiratis seeking growth opportunities. This company has taught me to view challenges as chances for learning and growth.
Outside of work, I’ve been pursuing my Masters in Engineering Management. Balancing coursework, deadlines, and my job hasn’t always been easy, but I’m proud to say I’ll be graduating this year! I’m especially grateful for the support and understanding of my amazing team, it’s been a privilege to work with such a respectful and encouraging group.

More Than a Company: My Parsons Family
My advice to anyone joining Parsons: you’re joining more than just a company; you’re joining a family. Parsons is a place where smiles are genuine, and where opportunities are always within reach. I like to think of my colleagues as “Chance Givers,” because they push you to grow, to aim higher, and to become the future leaders as Parsons engineers.
I’m truly grateful to be part of the Parsons family, and I’m so glad I took that original call and pursued the opportunity and didn’t miss my chance to be here.
