Learn more about Nathan Fehrman, System Specialist II Engineer at TRS, A Parsons Company.

Title: System Specialist II
Location: Tennessee
Year started at TRS: 2019
Education: Bachelor of Science in Economics and Political Science from University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point
Specialties: Construction management, drilling experience & basic rig maintenance, project leadership
TRS: Tell us about your background and what brought you to TRS Group.
Nathan: I was born and raised in Wisconsin and went to school for political science and economics; however, I wasn’t sure what to do after I graduated. I decided to work with my dad providing sonic drilling services, which was my introduction to the environmental business. We crossed paths with TRS as a contract driller, and after a good word was put in, I joined TRS about six years ago.
I originally saw myself in an office setting. Those who know me know I can’t sit still and like a change of scenery. As TRS needed people at job sites, my life at TRS has worked out well.
TRS: What has been your favorite place you’ve worked in so far?
Nathan: Anchorage, Alaska. Granted, the project location can be entirely different than the natural beauty of the surrounding area. TRS teams find favorite restaurants and areas to hang out. We get in a comfort zone with the local people and hotel staff. The people we meet make the experience.
TRS: What are you most proud of at TRS?
Nathan: The current project in Wisconsin has been going great. My new role, which is a big step up, is to oversee more of the project construction and site operations. It’s a great feeling to see that TRS trusts me in that position. It has been a great opportunity to grow professionally.
TRS: Tell us about a challenging site.
Nathan: We had a site in Tennessee that had unforeseen construction issues due to heavy rain events and flooding. I helped solve problems, picking up new skills and learning more about our equipment.
TRS: What is the most satisfying part of your job?
Nathan: TRS has been doing thermal remediation for 25 years. Although we are efficient, there are always ways to improve. After every project, our team circles back and discusses how to get better at what we do. Also, it is fun to show up at a site with just a design package and watch it transform from start to finish.
