PASADENA, CA (August 2, 2017) – As the firm responsible for managing the project labor agreement (PLA) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)—owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)—Parsons is pleased to announce that LAWA has launched the HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program to prepare local residents for skilled craft labor careers to support the $1 billion capital improvement program at LAX. Launched in partnership with Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Los Angeles Southwest College, and the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, the free program will begin in September at Los Angeles Southwest College.
In recognition of the size and complexity of the work at LAX, LAWA entered into a PLA to ensure skilled labor availability and labor stability and to maximize inclusion through a 30% local worker participation objective and community workforce development system. Parsons’ role is to facilitate and manage the PLA as well as the broader HireLAX program, which the 8-week apprenticeship readiness program falls under.
“We are extremely proud of the work we have done with LAWA and of the positive impact the HireLAX program is having for the local labor force,” said Dan Sloan, Vice President of Labor Relations and General Manager of Parsons Constructors Inc., the corporation’s entity focused on analyzing, developing, and implementing labor relations plans for large, complex programs. “The HireLAX Apprenticeship Readiness Program will prepare participants for entrance to union apprenticeships, increasing the workforce available to contractors engaged in the airport’s modernization.”
In addition to being matched with unions and contractors, program graduates will also receive comprehensive case management to help them overcome employment barriers and succeed in the workplace.
