Leading The Charge In Space Traffic Management

We’re at the forefront of advancing space situational awareness (SSA) for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Space Commerce (OSC) through the innovative Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) program: a vital effort for the safety of our shared space environment and its assets in orbit. TraCSS is a groundbreaking initiative that will navigate and deconflict the complexities of congested space traffic while driving innovation and collaboration between governments and industry in the space domain.

As the system integrator, we are responsible for developing the robust software backbone and seamless integration of  commercial components to ensure safe and efficient space traffic management. By prioritizing agile development and harnessing cutting-edge cloud technology, we’re enhancing spaceflight safety, positioning the U.S. as a leader in safe and sustainable space operations.

Achieving Critical Milestones

In alignment with NOAA’s commitment to safe and sustainable space operations, we have successfully delivered the first critical Phase 1.0 milestone in our role as system integrator for the TraCSS program. This pivotal achievement marks the development of advanced software solutions that enhance space traffic coordination by improving the detection, tracking, and management of space objects to mitigate collision risks.

Phase 1.0 also provides the ‘beta user’ community access to conjunction data messages (CDMs) for evaluation while TraCSS runs in parallel with the Department of Defense (DoD) systems. This significant milestone supports the transition of the safety of flight mission from the DoD to the Department of Commerce.

The Parsons-developed system establishes the foundational platform for hosting services supporting the civil space situational awareness mission. These capabilities are designed to improve space traffic coordination for thousands of space vehicles, enabling safe space operations for the preservation of human lives, business assets, and the overall space environment.

Enhancing Real-Time Data Processing

By integrating commercial and government technologies, we‘re delivering real-time data processing and analysis that underpins  safe and responsible space activities. This partnership strengthens the global effort to effectively manage the increasing volume of satellites and space debris in orbit.

Expertise In Space Domain Awareness

Our work on the TraCSS program reflects our decades of experience, delivering space domain awareness and traffic coordination solutions for the US Government and its allies. Our specialized team can develop and deploy customized tools tailored to diverse missions,. They achieve this through highly detailed analysis, decision support systems, machine learning algorithms, and advanced visualization capabilities. Our software engineers and developers stand ready to support future Space Domain Awareness and threat protection missions. They face a wide variety of operational challenges to the space ecosystem, including direct-ascent anti-satellite (ASAT), co-orbital ASAT, directed energy weapons, missile warning threat applications, and satellite breakup notification/alerting. Additional challenges are space object characterization, space order of battle, pin-point orbit determination, satellite propagation/conjunction, course-of-action planning/assessment, and space domain visualization.

Future Ready Solutions For Sustainability

In addition to software development, we’re bringing deep experience in cloud-based infrastructure, enabling scalable, secure solutions that are adaptable to future needs. This ongoing collaboration with NOAA strategically positions both organizations to confront emerging challenges in space traffic management and contribute to long-term space sustainability efforts.
