As part of our Parsons Gives Back Program, we continually evaluate our community’s ever-changing needs, providing support to educational, cultural, and civic organizations in the communities where our employees live and work. Charitable contributions, in-kind donations, and volunteerism directly correlate with improving the quality of life while making the world a better place.
Our community involvement mirrors the values we hold as a company, especially our six core values. We have supported multiple nonprofit organizations for numerous years while others reflect our growth and expansion into new markets and geographies:
Since 2018, we’ve teamed with the 24 Foundation to raise money and make an impact on the lives of people affected by cancer by participating in 24 Hours of Booty, a 24-hour non-competitive cycling and walking event. While the event is based in Charlotte, NC, people from throughout the corporation participate as fundraisers, donors, and supporters. In 2019, we raised more than $52,000 for the Foundation.
Our Charlotte, North Carolina, office has participated in the Corporate Cup (formerly known as YMCA Corporate Cup), a 5k run/walk and half-marathon through uptown Charlotte and its adjacent neighborhoods since 1984. Proceeds from our fundraiser help the YMCA build strong kids, families, and communities in Charlotte. In addition, all Corporate Cups proceeds benefit the YMCA’s programs and services that nurture the potential of kids and teens, promote healthy living, foster a sense of social responsibility, and strengthen the foundations of the community. The Corporate Cup continues to celebrate healthy competition while giving back to the community.
Since 2007, our California employees and their families have been a part of Big Sunday, the largest volunteer event in the United States and one of Los Angeles’ annual community service events. Our employees have worked on projects ranging from participating in a local food bank to clearing brush in canyon areas.
In 2015, we became the Country Partner for Bridges to Prosperity, a nonprofit dedicated to providing isolated communities with access to essential healthcare, education, and economic opportunities by building footbridges over impassable rivers. Parsons has also supported the organization’s bridge-building program in Rwanda via its annual Bridges and Birdies Golf Tournament.
We continue to partner with this group, which is dedicated to providing affordable housing for low-income families around the world. Since 1998, more than 200 Parsons employees and their families have put in thousands of volunteer hours working on homes across the United States, most recently in Maryland. We have also provided monetary donations.
We proudly support those actively serving our country and their families, as well as veterans of the armed forces. Through fundraising and other events, we help sustain the Association of the United States Army, the Institute of Veterans Education and Training (IVET), Home Front Cares, the U.S. Navy’s Seabees Museum, and the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial. In 2017, we hosted a Golf Classic to benefit IVET and the Warrior Canine Connection at the Augustine Golf Club, in Stafford, VA. All proceeds from this 10th annual event were donated to the two veterans groups. In addition, we helped veterans find employment opportunities with the City of Long Beach, CA, through our partnership with Helmets to Hardhats.
Established in California in the 1960s, our undergraduate/graduate scholarship program was expanded in 2009 to include the dependents of our full-time employees attending an accredited college or university. In 2017, Parsons awarded 38 scholarships worth $120,000 under our annual scholarship program: 21 first-time recipients and 17 renewed scholarships.
We understand the value of introducing students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and have spearheaded and/or supported STEM internship and in-school programs.
We are proud to support the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering compassionate care to all those grieving the loss of a loved one who died while serving in our Armed Forces or as a result of his or her service. This year, Parsons hosted the 12th Annual TAPS Golf Outing to benefit TAPS and support the families of our fallen soldiers.
