SLA has announced its plans to transform 740,000m² of barren land into green space across 104 new neighbourhood parks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The Danish design studio intends to improve the lives of hundreds of residents across Khalifa City, Al Ain, Shakhbout and MBZ.
The project includes the planting of 22,500 new trees and a 500% biodiversity boost, intended to create cooling green space within the city’s hot climate.
Each park’s design will be based on native plant ecosystems and community needs, with amenities ranging from football pitches to picnic tables.
Rasmus Astrup, SLA design principal and senior partner says:
“This project is about everyday life – making real, tangible improvements to how people in Abu Dhabi live together in their neighbourhoods.”
The 104 neighbourhood parks project is in collaboration with the Department of Municipalities and Transport and Parsons Corporation.
