US-based engineering firm Parsons Corporation has announced that it has won a $53m contract from the Royal Commission of Riyadh City (RCRC) in Saudi Arabia. The scope of the contract includes project management services for RCRC’s main and ring roads programme. The programme includes 500 kilometres (km) of new and road upgrade works in and around the capital of Saudi Arabia. In an official statement, Parsons said that “the key objectives of the programme are to keep the city moving during construction and meet the requirements associated with the growth plans for Riyadh, including tackling congestion and hosting global events such as the Expo 2030 and FIFA World Cup 2034.” This is the second major contract win for Parsons in the Middle East region. In October, the firm announced that it had won two design contracts worth $25m from an undisclosed client based in the Middle East. Parsons will lead the design engineering and construction supervision of transportation infrastructure enhancements. The scope of the contract includes the development of mobility solutions, roadway capacity upgrades and public transit initiatives to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion. The scope also includes conducting a study to assess a new corridor to alleviate traffic and optimise expressway traffic.   (ICE RIYADH)
