Parsons is pleased to announce that Joseph Averkamp has joined the company as a Vice President and Systems Product Sales Lead. In this role, he will assist Parsons’ systems group with business development and marketing growth strategy in the Eastern U.S. region.
Mr. Averkamp has 28 years of experience in technology assessment and development, market analysis, business development and strategy, and project management and delivery. Most recently, he worked as a Chief Technology Lead of Tolling and Intelligent Transportation Systems for a leading provider of diversified business process services. He offers expertise with technologies including wireless, GPS, tolling sensors, and telematics and automatic electronic systems. He has extensive experience designing and launching systems including intelligent transportation and tolling, automotive electronics, and wireless voice and data.
Mr. Averkamp began his career working for automotive companies, where he was instrumental in launching the world’s first GPS-Wireless system for emergency calling and for leading the development of OnStar in-vehicle telematics systems and equipment. He led development and management of project strategy for a major communications company, and developed a taxonomic system that evaluated thousands of applications over four different networks. He helped to develop and grow a connected, autonomous vehicle practice and an intelligent transportation systems practice for a large management consulting firm. Most recently, Mr. Averkamp spearheaded the development and launch of a vehicle passenger detection system, a leading system for high occupancy vehicle detection and occupancy counting.
Mr. Averkamp holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. He is the Co-Chair of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Deployment coalition Working Group 1. He works from his home in Virginia.
