Parsons Wins Construction Management Award for Houston Metro Light Rail Transit Project
PASADENA, CA (April 14 2016) – Parsons is pleased to announce that the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) recently honored the corporation with the Alliant Build America Award in the civil construction management category for its work on the Houston Metro Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. The design-build project—the largest public works program in the city’s history—extended Metro’s 7.5-mile rail service by 15 miles with the addition of three new rail lines through downtown Houston, TX.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award recognizing our achievement and expertise in construction management,” said Michael Johnson, Parsons Group President. “Our construction and project management experience, augmented by our design and construction capability, makes us one of only a handful of truly integrated alternative delivery firms.”
While under construction, the Houston Metro LRT project was the largest design-build transit project in the United States. It involved the design and construction of 24 stations and 2 new storage and inspection facilities, major renovations to the existing operations control center, construction or rehabilitation of 8 light rail bridges, roadway and sidewalk improvements along the 62 lane miles of guideway and 87 signalized at-grade crossings, plus relocation of 36 miles of public and private utilities. The project also included the provision of LRT traction power, signal and communications systems, and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
ACG’s Alliant Build America Awards honor firms that have built the nation’s most impressive construction projects in the building, highway/transportation, utility infrastructure, and federal/heavy construction markets.
