According to the UN World Urbanization Prospects, Toulouse had an estimated population of 1,070,750 in 2024 and this number is expected to rise. To enhance urban mobility in Toulouse in response to the anticipated population growth, the Syndicat mixte des transports en commun (SMTC) initiated the development of a third metro line (Line C) to serve the city, featuring a driverless Grades of Automation (GoA4) driving solution.
Metro Line C Development
This new line connects the municipalities of Colomiers and Labège via Toulouse, encompassing 21 stations over approximately 27 KM (approx. 17 miles), including both tunnel and viaduct sections. The Maintenance and Storage Site features a connection branch to the line near the Sept Deniers station.
Tisséo: The Toulouse Metropolitan Transport System
The Toulouse metropolitan transport system, known locally as Tisséo, serves over 100 communities.
Parsons’ scope consists of managing the studies of the Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles subsystem (yellow fleets) of the Toulouse Metro Line C project within the framework of the global performance contract for the Système de Transportation (SdT).
Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles And Design Phases
The Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles subsystems consist of a set of shunters and wagons designed for maintenance activities. The service is divided into two phases:
1. Preliminary Design Phase
- Requirements Review: Assessing the market requirements related to the Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles subsystems, incorporating acquired knowledge and recent technical developments to define and propose an improved set of requirements.
- Deliverables Production: Creating deliverables related to the preliminary design of the Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles subsystems.
2. General Design Phase
- Expert Opinion: Providing expert opinions via observation sheets on the deliverables produced by Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles subsystem manufacturers.
- Document Review Management: Overseeing document review tasks to ensure these documents reach a level desired by Alstom.
Scope Of The Transport System (SdT) For Metro Line C
The scope of the transport system SdT for the third metro line in the Toulouse metropolitan area includes:
- Rolling stock
- Driving automation (CBTC, railway signaling, Traction Logic, CBTC Ground and Onboard radio network)
- Track and traction rail
- Private high voltage distribution (delivery stations)
- Traction energy supply and distribution network
- Quay fronts
- Special maintenance equipment at the maintenance and storage site
- Specific Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles
