Receivers

We offer many high performance receivers with broad frequency coverage in small modular packages. The receivers feature super heterodyne architectures to provide maximum RF performance in dense signal environments yet are very economically priced. The receivers all have a low-noise figures, high dynamic range, and nominal gain with IF outputs that are optimized for digitization. The receivers are powered from 9 –16 VDC and can be controlled with RS-232 or USB interfaces using high-level industry common ASCII commands.

SP-8411 Microwave Tuner Module

The SP-8411 is a high-performance microwave tuner, covering the 100 MHz to 18 GHz frequency range in a modular brick-type form factor. The unit is either controlled via a simple SPI interface or by a USB 2.0 interface. The SP-8411 USB interface supports common ASCII commands, so it can easily interface with industry standard applications. The SP-8411 uses the Atlanta Micro AM9017 converter, which provides excellent performance with very low SWaP.

Software-Definable Radios And Transceivers

These units have signal and overload indicators and are controllable via Ethernet or the front panel. They offer configurable frequency ranges for optimal performance.

SP-1342 20 MHz-6 GHz Quad Tuner With Digital IF Output

The SP-1342 is a modular quad tuner that includes four 20 MHz to 6 GHz tuners and a four-channel IF digitizer. Each tuner and digitizer combination is capable of digitizing up to 40 MHz of bandwidth. The system is LAN controlled. The digital data from the four tuners is provided on a 10-gigabit Ethernet (10GE) interface in a VITA-49 compatible format. The unit is capable of providing four 40 MHz channels on the 10GE interface in real-time.

The 1U-rack-mountable frame holds one to eight SP-8383-x VHF/UHF tuners and includes a four-tuner digitizer with space for a second digitizer. Each digitizer is capable of 40 MHz of bandwidth per tuner. The digital IF outputs are on a 10-gigabit Ethernet (10GE) interface in a VITA-49 compatible format. The 10GE transceiver on the digitizer is implemented with an SFP+ site, so it may use a variety of commercially available fiber or copper 10GE interfaces. The unit can be purchased with a larger FPGA to support user applications.

The SP-1383 is a 1U rack-mount frame that holds one to four SP-83xx VHF/UHF tuners and includes a four-tuner digitizer. The SP-1383-1 configuration adds a second digitizer, supporting up to four more tuners.

The SP-1383 can be dynamically configured for phase-coherent (SP-8318s or SP-8322s tuners required) or fully independent operations by individual tuner. The SP-1383 supports the LO synchronization capabilities of the SP-8318/SP-8322 tuners. This allows the user application to determine which (up to 8) tuners are used for phase-coherent groups versus independent tuners. Any tuners not assigned to a phase-coherent group may be used for independent operations.

SP-8304 300 MHz-4 GHz Four-Channel Receiver

The SP-8304 is a compact, fully functional multichannel receiver. The four independent receiving channels cover 300 to 4000 MHz. Each receiver provides a 20 MHz bandwidth, providing up to 80 MHz of instantaneous coverage. It is powered from an external 9-16V power supply. The data is packetized per VITA-49 standards and made available over a PCIe interface. The PCIe physical interface is implemented via a miniature 14-pin Hirose connector with various adapters to allow connection such as PCIExpress, MiniPCIExpress, etc. Other variations of the receiver offer ThunderBolt 2 or 3 interfaces.

SP-1394 20 MHz-6 GHz Mast-Mount Tuner/Digitizer Frame

The SP-1394 Mast-Mount Tuner Frame allows the SP-4342 RF switch and the SP-1342 Quad Tuner Digitizer to be integrated into an outdoor enclosure that may be mast-mounted. The result is a 4-channel RF system that accepts two RF inputs between 20 MHz and 6 GHz and provides up to four 40 MHz-wide digitized IF outputs on a 10-gigabit Ethernet (10GE) LC-fiber interface. Control is from a second LC-fiber interface.

SP-8309 300 MHz-4 GHz Four-Channel MIMO Transceiver

The SP-8309 is compact, fully functional multichannel transceiver for MIMO or phase-coherent requirements. The unit measures approximately 4" × 6" × 1" and contains four receiving channels and one transmitting channel, all of which cover 300 to 4000 MHz. Each channel provides 20 MHz bandwidth I&Q data packetized per VITA-49 standards, which is available over a USB 3.0 interface. The unit can be purchased with an integrated antenna option.

SP-8344 20 MHz-6 GHz Quad 3U VPX Tuner With Digital IF Output

The SP-8344 is a modular conduction-cooled 3U VPX quad tuner. It includes four 20 MHz to 6 GHz tuners and a four-channel IF digitizer and FPGA. A 250 Msps digitizer is connected to each tuner and is capable of digitizing the 40 MHz tuner bandwidth. The digital data from the four tuners is provided in a VITA-49 compatible format over four Aurora lanes on the VPX backplane. The FPGA includes a 10GBASE-KR interface to support a CMOSS/SOSA-compatible version of the quad tuner. The unit also includes an internal GPS-stabilized, 10 MHz reference, and a 1G Ethernet interface for control.

SP-8385 30 MHz–6 GHz V/UHF Receiver

The SP-8385 is a VHF/UHF receiver with a tuning range of 20 to 6000 MHz. It provides an automatic gain-controlled (AGC) 21.4 MHz IF output that is 4 MHz wide. It also has switchable AM, FM, and LOG detection modes. An internal fast fourier transform (FFT) processor is included to provide streaming FFT data over the LAN interface. The receiver is based on the SP-8383 tuner with a digital signal processor (DSP) added to perform IF filter, IF frequency conversion to 21.4 MHz, FFT processing, AGC, and AM, FM, and LOG demodulation.

Digitizers

Our digitizers convert the analog intermediate frequencies (IFs) of receivers to a VITA-49 compatible format. The digitizers provide independently controllable signal-processing chains. Each chain includes a tunable digital downconverter (DDC), wideband resampler, and bandwidth filter processors.
