Parsons Reapproved as Participant in OSHA’s Corporate Voluntary Protection Program
PASADENA, CA (February 6, 2017) – Parsons is pleased to announce that it has been reapproved as a participant in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) Corporate Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)—a cooperative program that partners with employers and workers who have effective safety and health management systems and who maintain injury and illness rates below federal Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries.
“Parsons is the longest standing OSHA Corporate VPP participant in our industry, and our reapproval is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our line employees, project managers, and executive leadership team,” said Brad Barber, Parsons Vice President of Corporate Safety, Health & Environment. “Everyone collectively played a part in this achievement, including each of our business groups through their exemplary projects.”
In addition to being an OSHA Corporate VPP participant, 23 Parsons sites have achieved VPP Star status. The Star Program recognizes exemplary worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems. In mid-2016, OSHA granted VPP Star status to a 12th Star site for the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Inspection System (NJMVIS) program. Through its contract managing the NJMVIS program, Parsons is responsible for inspecting more than 2 million vehicles annually and for maintaining 124 inspection lanes at 26 state-owned inspection facilities. In late 2015, the Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) project in Aiken, SC, achieved Star status under the Department of Energy VPP. Parsons is the prime contractor on the SWPF, a project designed to process the radioactive waste stored in underground tanks at the Savannah River site.
Parsons has a strong health and safety record. The corporation is one of only five companies in the nation currently participating in OSHA’s Corporate VPP. Criteria for OSHA Corporate VPP status include a significant commitment to the program at the corporate level and a comprehensive, organizationwide safety and health management system.
