Background/Objectives

This project addressed lead-contaminated soil in over 500 public right-of-way areas within a 2-mile radius of a 1940s waste incinerator. The objective was to achieve safe and efficient remediation while minimizing community disruption. The initiative focused on restoring impacted areas to safe conditions, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and fostering public trust through transparent processes.

Approach/Activities

The remediation strategy combined soil sampling, laboratory analysis, and digital field data collection with GIS mapping and advanced project management tools (EQuIS, Forms On Fire, Esri, Microsoft 365). Remedial decision units were established for precise excavation, disposal, and
restoration. This systematic approach streamlined workflows, enhanced data accuracy, and ensured efficient resource allocation.

Results/Lessons Learned

Digital workflows and integrated data management significantly improved accuracy, progress tracking, and reporting. Collaboration resolved challenges such as field markup discrepancies, ensuring consistent documentation. Deliverables included clear as-built maps and comprehensive reports, providing the client with reliable records. The project demonstrates the value of innovative tools and teamwork in achieving successful, community-focused remediation outcomes.
