Teaming With Industry and Technology Leaders to Deliver Smart-City Solutions

Parsons Corporation and our partners and sponsors proudly announce our panel of industry-expert judges for the Smart Cities Challenge, Transforming Intersections. Esteemed judges His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Mogbel, chairman; Amy Ford; Tim McManus; and John Rossant offer a wealth of expertise and a global perspective to this initiative and to the selection of semifinalists, which will be announced at CoMotion LA. We’re confident that Transforming Intersections will significantly increase mobility and reduce the time citizens spend at red lights.

H.E. Eng. Abdullah Al-Mogbel, chair of the International Road Federation and former Saudi Arabia minister of transport; Amy Ford, director of the Mobility on Demand Alliance (MODA) for ITS America; Tim McManus, faculty member at Columbia University’s School of Engineering and former vice president at McKinsey & Company, a global consultancy; and John Rossant, CEO of CoMotion, a leading industry and technology community for the mobility revolution, are on the forefront of mobility trends and offer years of public- and private-sector insight to the challenge selection process.

The goal of the Parsons Smart Cities Challenge is to change the way cities move by collaborating with governments to solve some of the most complex mobility issues they face today, including frustrated motorists sitting at intersections in traffic backups waiting for lights to change. With Parsons Intelligent Intersections, cities and counties can leverage existing data to provide automated traffic re-timing based on changing traffic patterns, enhancing mobility for the region. In addition, connected vehicles can communicate with traffic signals, which will lead to more efficient and environmentally friendly driving, with a smaller carbon footprint, and ultimately to safer intersections. Traffic signal owners can also provide priority to transit and emergency vehicles or automatically extend green cycles for pedestrians needing extra time to cross the street.
