183 North Mobility Project

The 183 North Mobility Project will expand capacity along a nine-mile stretch of US 183 between SH 45 North and MoPac by adding two tolled express lanes in each direction in the middle of US 183 and expanding the existing US 183 to four non-tolled, general-purpose lanes in each direction. Parsons, a member of the joint venture, works in conjunction with the City of Austin and Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. The completed project is expected to improve overall mobility, operational efficiency, accessibility, safety, and emergency response by providing additional transportation routes and increased capacity to meet current and future travel demands.

SH249 Extension Design-Build

The SH249 extension is a 24-mile-long limited-access toll road located in Montgomery and Grimes counties, northwest of Houston, Texas. This project effectively connects suburban communities to other regional roadways, improving mobility and safety while addressing the increasing population and residential development in the area. Parsons, as a subcontractor for Williams Brothers Construction Company, served as the lead design engineer, providing design and construction services, and potential capital maintenance for two segments of the road. The team implemented various innovations and processes that contributed to the project's overall success, achieving substantial completion nine months ahead of the contract deadline.

2023 National Design-Build Merit Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA)

Houston Metro Light Rail Expansion Design-Build

We led the design-build of light rail transit (LRT) corridors and associated maintenance facilities for Metro. The $1.3 billion expanded light rail system includes three new corridors, totaling approximately 15 miles of doubletrack LRT, 23 stations, storage, maintenance and inspection facilities, system safety and operational upgrades to the existing 7.5-mile LRT system, 58 new light rail vehicles, a new operations control center (OCC), and major renovations to the existing OCC that allow it to operate as a backup. This project was constructed to meet Houston’s transportation and environmental challenges, ease traffic congestion, and improve air quality. Learn more

George Bush Airport International Terminal Redevelopment

The George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) International Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP) is a capital improvement program designed to add international gate capacity, renovate existing airside amenities, expand passenger processing, and enhance the overall customer experience. Parsons is providing program management support services for the $1.458 billion capital improvement program designed to modernize and expand facilities at IAH. This project will provide a modern, state-of-the-art international facility that reflects the airport's standing as a premier global gateway and a vital economic engine for the Houston region's strong economy.

2018 Professional Services Contractor of the Year Award from the City of Houston

DART Orange Line Phases 1, 2, 3 Design-Build

Area Rapid Transit Authority (DART) undertook their first design-build project through a competitive bidding process. DART selected a design-build team with Parsons as the lead designer to complete the $586.4 million final design and construction of 14 miles that expanded DART’s rail network to 90 miles. Parsons self-performed 42 percent of the overall design and managed 17 design contractors working on five segments of the line. The overall project included 2.3 miles of elevated track, six stations with parking lots, six traction power substations, and eight bridges.

Austin Downtown Tunnel Improvement Program

Parsons delivered comprehensive design and construction management services for the Austin Downtown Wastewater Tunnel, a 20,500-foot-long, 10-foot-diameter tunnel crossing downtown Austin through Austin Chalk. Tackling major groundwater control and geotechnical challenges, Parsons employed innovative designs that enhanced wastewater collection, prevented sewage overflows, and facilitated the decommissioning of two lift stations, thereby increasing wastewater collection capacity for future development in support of the City’s long-term growth plan. The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget, showcasing Parsons' engineering expertise and commitment to success.

San Antonio Water System Brackish Water Desalination Program, Phase I

Parsons provided comprehensive program and construction management services for the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) Brackish Groundwater Desalination Program, which is designed to diversify the city's water supply and ensure long-term sustainability. The project involved the development of a desalination plant capable of treating brackish groundwater to produce potable water. Parsons' role encompassed overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring that the project adhered to stringent quality, budget, and schedule requirements. By leveraging our expertise in water infrastructure and advanced treatment technologies, we successfully delivered a state-of-the-art facility that enhances water security for the San Antonio region.

McKalla Station Design-Build

McKalla Station is CapMetro's first design-build project and the first of the Project Connect Expansion Program, which aims to enhance and expand Austin’s transit system. Located next to Q2 Stadium, home to Austin's Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the station serves as a key transit option for stadium visitors and the community as an expanded daily service for the MetroRail Red Line. As the lead designer, Parsons managed the final design, permitting, phasing, and construction services. McKalla Station achieved LEED Silver certification, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable design and construction practices. Houston Wastewater Treatment Plant Consolidation

Parsons played a pivotal role in the City of Houston's innovative wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) consolidation strategy as part of the Hurricane Harvey recovery program. This initiative included the Upper Brays, Turkey Creek, and West District WWTPs, in which our dedicated team provided master planning, engineering design, cost estimation, and detailed technical documentation to consolidate the three facilities, to mitigate future flooding. We conducted thorough assessments of the system, including geotechnical evaluations, damage assessments, and hydraulic modeling, to ensure a comprehensive approach. Parsons led a team of subconsultants and collaborated closely with various City departments throughout the development of the preliminary engineering report. Our key strategies included the careful retirement of two treatment plants, the consolidation of lift stations, and the expansion of the Upper Brays Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), all while preparing comprehensive FEMA documentation to ensure compliance for reimbursement.
