SUMMARY:Uranium Mine And Mill Cleanup: Challenges\, Remediation Strategies\, And Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:Join us on August 12th\, 2026 for a technical webinar regarding Uranium Mine And Mill Cleanup: Challenges\, Remediation Strategies\, And Lessons Learned. \nBackground/Objectives\nUranium mine and mill cleanup presents unique technical and regulatory challenges compared to conventional mine reclamation. This presentation examines how differing regulatory frameworks\, radiological contaminants\, site conditions\, and cleanup objectives influence investigation strategies\, remedy selection\, and long-term stewardship of legacy uranium sites. \nApproach/Activities\nThe presentation reviews uranium decay products\, contaminants of concern\, cleanup goal development\, investigation techniques\, and remedial technologies. Four case studies representing state-led\, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-led\, Potentially Responsible Party-led\, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission-regulated cleanup programs are used to compare regulatory approaches\, characterization methods\, remedial strategies\, and engineering considerations across a range of uranium mine and mill sites. \nResults/Lessons Learned\nSuccessful uranium site remediation requires integrating regulatory requirements\, geologic conditions\, radiological science\, engineering feasibility\, and long-term stewardship. The case studies demonstrate that no single remediation strategy fits every site and that understanding regulatory drivers and site-specific conditions is essential for developing effective\, defensible\, and sustainable cleanup solutions. \nPresenters\nKYLE VICKSTROM\, PE Kyle is an environmental engineer and subject matter expert in sediment and mine site remediation specializing in contaminant fate and transport assessments\, environmental statistics and geostatistics\, alternatives evaluation\, and remedial and restoration design at complex sites. \nEDWARD GREINER Edward is a Senior Geologist and Geochemist with Parsons. He specializes in environmental remediation\, abandoned uranium mine investigations\, radiological characterization\, geochemistry\, and remediation planning for federal\, state\, tribal\, and private-sector clients. \nTo Join The Webinar\nJoin on your computer\, mobile app or room device: \nClick here to join the meeting.\nPhone Conference ID: 212 202 824 092 361 \nPasscode: Ru7WC6KT  \nPlease visit the Parsons YouTube channel where video recordings of our previous\ntechnical webinars are available for viewing.
