SUMMARY:Webinar | Development And Validation Of PFAS Analytical Methods For Characterization Of Complex Matrices
DESCRIPTION:Join us on July 8th\, 2026 for a technical webinar regarding Development And Validation Of PFAS Analytical Methods For Characterization Of Complex Matrices. \nBackground/Objectives\nPer- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) occur in a wide range of environmental and industrial matrices\, but conventional analytical methods can be difficult to apply to complex samples\, particularly at low concentrations and in the presence of significant matrix interferences. This presentation reviews the technical challenges associated with PFAS characterization and examines the need for complementary methods that expand beyond targeted mass spectrometric analysis and reduce analytical turnaround time. \nApproach/Activities\nThis presentation summarizes several in-house analytical methods developed to support rapid PFAS screening\, including the colorimetric active surfactant (CAS) assay\, the ultraviolet-reducible organic fluorine (UV-ROF) assay\, and a UV-activated total oxidizable precursors (TOP) assay. Topics include method development\, validation against commercial methods such as Environmental Protection Agency Method 1633 and adsorbable organic fluoride (AOF) analysis\, and sample preparation strategies to address matrix complexity and concentration-dependent analytical limitations. \nResults/Lessons Learned\nThe results show that indirect screening methods can provide useful PFAS characterization across complex matrices when supported by appropriate pre-processing and quality assurance measures. Key lessons include the importance of managing matrix interferences\, matching sample concentration to the method’s linear range through dilution or pre-concentration\, and using rapid in-house screening to prioritize samples for external laboratory analysis. These methods can support faster\, lower-cost decision-making while expanding data coverage for PFAS investigations. \nPresenters\nDAVID PATCH\, PhD David is an analytical chemist with experience in both academic and industrial professional environments. He has six years of experience in environmental research and development\, specializing in the analysis of legacy and emerging contaminants. \nNATALIA O’CONNOR Natalia is a research and development scientist with experience in PFAS\nremediation. She has six years of experience in environmental research and development\, focusing on the characterization and destruction of organic pollutants\, including PFAS. \nTo Join The Webinar\nJoin on your computer\, mobile app or room device: \nClick here to join the meeting.\nPhone Conference ID: 284 815 940 467 73 \nPasscode: yC7De9qa \nPlease visit the Parsons YouTube channel where video recordings of our previous\ntechnical webinars are available for viewing.
