Project Description
Parsons was responsible for the development of preliminary engineering plans and preparation of the Environmental Impact Statements associated with DART’s Northwest Corridor LRT projects. The Northwest Corridor includes two LRT lines, from downtown Dallas to Farmers Branch and Carrollton, and a branch line to Irving and D/FW Airport. These extensions of the light rail system provide an additional 30 miles of LRT service in the cities of Dallas, Farmers Branch, and Irving, and connections to the area’s two airports - Love Field and D/FW Airport.
Parsons developed an off-site parking garage with a pedestrian bridge to an access-challenged station site; developed four extensive station area land use development plans; identified and designed a new LRT operating facility, and developed a shared right-of-way strategy with continuing parallel freight service. Parsons also evaluated design options in a high-traffic industrial area, resulting in the development of a three-mile elevated section to avoid heavy truck traffic and 19 potential at-grade street crossings.
The Carrollton Line Draft EIS was published in June 2002, and Final EIS in 2002. The Irving/DFW Line project began in late 2002. Parsons was selected to serve as the final design manager for this project.
