Project Description
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PA) has selected Parsons to oversee, administer and manage the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system contract. The AFC system replaces the existing system with the latest in fare collection equipment. The scope of work involves system design reviews, coordination with New York City Transit regarding the integration of MetroCard, oversight of factory and field testing, and commissioning. The PATH AFC system is also the first implementation of Smart Card ticketing in the NY/NJ region. Parsons is playing a key role in planning the transition from the existing AFC system to the new system for the 13 station fare collection system.
Having been involved with the project prior to the contract award, the Parson’s team took a lead role throughout the design review period to develop the final design. To confirm the design, Parsons was heavily involved in the first article testing and production acceptance testing at the contractor’s site.
Having expertise in the AFC operations area, Parsons worked closely with PATH to develop transition plans to implement the new equipment while phasing out the existing equipment. The Smart Card rollout and Customer Service Center planning were developed to minimize the impact of the new system to PATH’s patrons.
Parsons will ultimately be involved with the performance monitoring and contract closeout administration.
Parsons is a leading consultant in the field of AFC systems.
