Parsons Parsons

Urban Roads

Quality urban highway plans and designs strive to combine functional and capacity improvements with minimization of impacts to the community. Parsons has achieved this in major upgrades such as Chicago’s Kennedy Expressway and New York City’s Gowanus Expressway, as well as our design of one of the largest highway improvement projects in the U.S., I-15 through Salt Lake City. Other examples include portions of the SR-55 freeway near San Jose, a 17-mile depressed freeway with crossover bridges, interchange ramps, and noise barriers, and Denver’s 6th Avenue/I-25 Interchange. Internationally, Parsons’ design expertise is visible in the urban centers of Buenos Aires, Kuwait, and Bangkok.

One area of particular importance in urban settings is the highway interchange. Parsons designs conventional interchanges as well as compact, high capacity, interchanges such as single point urban interchanges, tight diamonds, and roundabouts.
