Rural Roads
Road design in rural environments demands special considerations. Parsons applies an integrated approach to highway design in rural locations, in order to minimize impacts or actually enhance environmentally sensitive areas. For example, our award winning design of the Franconia Notch Parkway in New Hampshire was one of the first to provide a considerable increase in capacity and safety to an interstate without compromising the
features of the State Park and forest through which it passes.
Other major rural projects include: the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor, one of the first design/build projects in the U.S.; I-70 through Glenwood Canyon, Colorado; Corridor H in West Virginia, a 9 mile segment of this limited access facility; and the Conway, New Hampshire bypass, a phased design and construction project involving improvements to 20 miles of existing roads.
