Bridge Rehabilitation and Retrofit

As the bridges of the world age and wear, countries turn increasingly to Parsons for bridge rehabilitation and retrofitting services. Our experts inspect and appraise bridge condition and then prepare rehabilitation plans. Because we are a company with integrated, full-service capabilities, we can implement the plan and manage all phases of rehabilitation construction to extend the safe and useful life of the structure.

Parsons is the designer of some of the most complex bridge rehabilitation and retrofit projects ever undertaken. Notable examples include the $800 million award-winning reconstruction of the Williamsburg Bridge in New York City. Probably the best example in the world of bridge retrofit is Parsons’ unprecedented work on the Tagus River Bridge in Lisbon, Portugal, Europe’s longest-span highway/ railway bridge. In this world-class undertaking, Parsons actually created a “bridge within a bridge” by adding a secondary cable system and two railroad tracks, all without interruption to vital Tagus River Bridge traffic.
