PASADENA, CA (January 27, 2010) – Parsons, an international engineering, construction, and technical and management services firm, today announced that it will serve as a Gold Sponsor of the Saadiyat Beach Classic to be held at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi on January 28. Hosted by Gary Player, golfing legend and course designer, the charity event marks the opening of Saadiyat Island’s first tourist attraction.
Known as the Island of Happiness, the development of Saadiyat Island is one of the most significant projects under way in Abu Dhabi. When completed, Saadiyat Island will be home to 160,000 residents and will include downtown and marina districts, single- and multifamily golf course communities, a number of resort hotels, and world-class museums such as the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and the Zayed National Museum.
Parsons designed and is providing construction supervision for earthwork, roads, water and wastewater infrastructure, and multiple bridges linking the mainland to Saadiyat Island—including Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the Middle East at 1.45 kilometers. This new bridge serves as a gateway to the Saadiyat Island development and provides an alternative link from Abu Dhabi to the highway to Dubai.
