Decontamination and Demolition - the green way
Parsons' unique programmatic approach and turnkey services help to minimize costs by competing local and regional contractors, and maximizing the materials recycled by combining volumes from multiple sites. Our commitment to sustainability is exemplified by the following examples:
Reducing waste and recycling. Parsons provided planning and oversight for demolition of over a dozen NASA buildings with complex research and process equipment to make way for a new runway as part of the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport expansion project. Most demolition waste streams were recycled including removal of universal waste and CFCs.
Minimizing air emissions. At a Superfund site in Ohio, Parsons provided design and construction management services for the decontamination, dismantlement and demolition of a boilerhouse, 80 foot high stack and 34 tanks. The building was enclosed and the stack was brought down under controlled conditions to minimize air emissions.
Restoring land. Parsons prepared plans and specifications, performed HAZOP reviews and performed construction oversight for the decommissioning and demolition of four process buildings and three tank farms at an antibiotics production facility in New York. The building and tank farm sites were restored to greenfield conditions.
