Parsons Parsons

Project Overview

Since 1996, Parsons has been the engineering management support contractor for the Department of Defense at the Russian Chemical Weapons Destruction Complex in Shchuch’ye, 1,600 kilometers east of Moscow. Parsons' key initiative to destroy remaining nerve agent munitions is the development of a furnace that thermally decontaminates the metal parts. The furnace was designed and fabricated at the Parsons Fabrication Facility.

The Metal Parts Treater furnace was built and tested in the United States. The technology uses induction heaters combined with a superheated steam generator to heat metal parts to more than 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit for more than 15 minutes, which decontaminates them to required levels.
