DECONTAMINATION AND DECOMMISSIONING
Parsons has extensive conceptual design, detailed design, permitting and licensing, and operations support experience and capabilities associated with the decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) of nuclear facilities.
Parsons is currently performing remediation, environmental management, deactivation, and decontamination and decommissioning work in support of the environmental restoration mission of the Department of Energy (DOE). We are supporting the DOE and its contractors at Fernald, Hanford, Los Alamos, RMI, Oak Ridge, Rocky Flats, Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, Mound, RMI, and Savannah River. Each effort requires that Parsons identify, evaluate, and adapt environmental technologies that apply to the DOE's unique waste management challenges. Parsons' involvement at DOE sites has focused on the D&D of nuclear facilities, as well as environmental safety and health and liquid/solid waste management.
Parsons and its personnel have successfully performed D&D projects that range from safe shutdown and assessment through remediation and project closeout. These projects involve planning, project management, engineering and design, cost and schedule control, environmental safety and health and technical support, innovative applications, value engineering, and risk assessment activities. Tasks include:
- Deactivation
- Decontamination and decommissioning
- Radiological and hazardous material characterization
- Certified laboratory sampling and analyses
- Waste management
- Program management
- Risk management/hazards assessments
- Integration of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act; Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act; and National Environmental Policy Act requirements
- Remote systems and robotics
- Criticality analyses
