This project won the American Planning Association’s 2003 Federal Planning Division Award for Outstanding Sustainable Planning, Design or Development Initiative.
“The Long Range Component is an outstanding document. In my opinion, it is the best Master Planning report document we have ever had at Fort Bragg. I have also skimmed master plans from other installations over the years. This is the best!!!” Mr. Glen Prillaman, Public Works Business Center, Fort Bragg, NC
Project Profile
Since its establishment in 1918, Fort Bragg has grown from a small field artillery base into one of the world’s largest military installations. Today, the installation is home to the nation’s Airborne and Special Operations Forces, including the headquarters of the XVIII Airborne Corps, 82nd Airborne Division, and U.S. Army Special Operations Command. The installation covers more than 160,000 acres and supports a population of 45,000 military personnel, their families, retirees, and civilian support staff. Fort Bragg has its own mall, schools, hospitals, homes, utility works, and entertainment facilities.
Parsons was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to prepare a comprehensive master plan to guide Fort Bragg’s orderly and comprehensive future development. The Parsons team worked closely with base personnel and stakeholders such as The Nature Conservancy and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to establish a shared vision for long-term land use and sustainable development. The resulting plan, composed of narrative, tabular and graphic documents, was envisioned as the single integrating document for all component plans and programs affecting the future development of Fort Bragg. This includes analyses of land use, transportation, utility infrastructure (including communication systems) safety issues, operations, and environmental factors affecting development.
Close coordination was achieved through frequent meetings, ensuring that various components of the plan were on schedule and that the requirements were met. Fort Bragg’s Public Works Business Center’s representative, Glen Prillaman, commended Parsons on the quality of the Master Plan.
Parsons is accomplishing this complex program using web-based program management tools. Through our close working relationship with our first-tier subcontractors, we can mobilize on any project in less than 2 hours.
