Parsons Parsons

"Parsons performance on the Small Arms Range Remediation Project, in my opinion, deserves an Excellent rating...[Parsons] actions resulted in an estimated costs savings of $750 thousand as compared to the original government cost estimate." Richard Petkovsek, AFCEE Field Engineer, Griffiss AFB, NY

Project Profile

Parsons has provided remedial services to Griffiss AFB since 1992, in support of the Air Force’s efforts to decontaminate the site and prepare it for redevelopment under the base realignment and closure act (BRAC). Initially, Parsons supported the remedial design and related services associated with Griffiss’ bulk storage tank systems. In 2002, Parsons performed the cleanup and restoration of a small-arms range and hardfill area.

Hazardous waste was safely separated from the nonhazardous waste onsite. Parsons also removed four underground storage tanks and remediated the surrounding area. Remediating the small-arms range and the underground storage tanks enabled Griffiss to achieve closure for these portions of the base under New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulations and Federal agencies.

In 2004, AFCEE selected Parsons for a new contract to perform additional restoration work that includes demolition of three 660,000-gallon bulk jet fuel storage tanks, and clean-up of PCB-contaminated soil
