UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE DETECTION AND CHARACTERIZATION

Parsons, a worldwide leader in unexploded ordnance (UXO) cleanup, has worked on detection and removal projects since 1990. Parsons understands the roles, responsibilities, and technologies necessary to complete highly productive UXO detection and removal operations.

Unexploded waste items come in all sizes and forms. They can be as minute as residue from explosives manufacturing and as large as bombs. They include pyrotechnics, chemical agents, rocket motors and booby traps.

Deterioration of ordnance items can cause blast or detonation effects; volatile organic compound emissions; releases of toxic fumes, lethal gases, and explosive residues; gross alpha and beta radiation; and other environmental impacts.

Many factors—geology, soil types, topography, and environmental and historic property access limitations—affect the performance of UXO detection and clearance technologies. Parsons’ engineers and technicians have an exceptional understanding of these technologies and their appropriate application. Their experience extends to culturally or environmentally sensitive areas that require effective detection and removal techniques with minimal impact.
