ROBOTICS

Robotics allow the automation of processes and remote, safe operations in both hazardous and nonhazardous environments. In many instances, applying robotics and robotic systems provides a safer, faster, and more cost-effective method for performing work than human labor.

Parsons has extensive experience in the design and integration of robotic systems and controls for facilities ranging from chemical demilitarization to manufacturing to transportation.

At Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Disposal System (JACADS), a demilitarization facility that processes munitions containing explosives and chemical agent, Parsons-designed robotic machines perform hazardous operations remotely and automatically. These machines include a rocket drain and shear machine, a mine drain and burster punchout machine, a rotary turntable projectile/mortar reverse assembly machine, a multipurpose demilitarization machine for burster removal and drain access to projectiles, and a bulk drain station machine. The facility also uses robotics as part of the material handling system. We received the "Engineering Honors Award" from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for our design of JACADS.

Current projects include:

  • Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program
  • Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility

Past projects include:

  • Fluorinal and Storage Facility
  • Fuel Processing Restoration Facility
  • Process Experimental Pilot Plant
  • Monitored Retrievable Storage Facility
  • Low-level Waste Storage Facility (Lanyu, Taiwan)
