Project Description
This major theme park attraction features a ride in a log boat that the guests ride in to view the show which culminates with a 5-story near-vertical drop over a "waterfall." Enclosing the attraction is a simulated mountain approximately 8 stories high with extensive architectural detailing to simulate trees and dockside buildings. It incorporates special effects and show lighting. Work involved realignment of the railroad that extends through the structure. Parsons oversaw the entire facility including coordination of the interfaces between client-furnished special effects and support services.
The schedule called for a fast-track construction sequence requiring civil site work documents to be completed early, and separate packages for the foundation work and fabrication of structural steel. Our innovative use of 3D CAD was critical to the design of the structural steel support for the water flumes. The 3D CAD model simulated the water flumes and demonstrated the safety envelope required to protect park visitors. Parsons played a major role in the design of the necessary miscellaneous steel structure to support the rockwork.
The attraction includes employee support areas (restroom, break rooms, offices), maintenance areas, guest queue areas, guest merchandise and storage areas, and mechanical and electrical spaces.
The project was completed on schedule and at budget without affecting other park attractions.
