Project Description
Tianjin is one of four municipalities directly under the Chinese central government, with a population of about 10 million and abundant natural resources. Tianjin's dynamic, 15-year-old Economic-Technological Development Area is one of the largest and most successful in the country.
One of the development area's goals is to go beyond industrial development by adding significant commercial development, thus improving quality of life. Parsons was asked to prepare a master plan for a 1-million-square-meter development that will have as its major icon a world-class soccer stadium and convention center, plus a commodities market, extensive retail space, offices, and two hotels-one for the convention center and one for a nearby theme park. This master plan will be the basis for future development of the site.
The proposed stadium will be a landmark soccer facility with state-of-the-art facilities for players, spectators, officials, and the media.
Project goals are to win the Luban award for construction quality in China, to complete stadium design and construction by August 2003, a 16-month schedule, and to train the agency's staff in project and construction management methodology. This new style of collaboration and advanced project and construction management techniques will help China prepare to enter the World Trade Organization.
