Parsons Parsons

Project Description

Parsons constructed the South Dupont Interchange fast-track project for the WSDOT and the City of Olympia in anticipation of the 3,000-acre Northwest Landing Development.

Work on this project included constructing six bridges, importing 500,000 cubic yards of material, grading, paving, drainage, retaining walls, wetland mitigation, and other site work. Work on this project required special attention to the surrounding environment and mitigation of any disruption to the surrounding wetland areas and environmentally sensitive conditions.

DuPont interchange had a big impact on WSDOT planning and construction procedures. The design and construction work on this project was completed in 26 months, compared with the typical 50 months for a project of this size, resulting in a cost savings of about 10 percent. The WSDOT has prepared a report on the DuPont interchange that recommends changing WSDOT procedures to speed up other projects. The Dupont project has set the standards for future WSDOT work.
