Project Description
Before the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge could be constructed, the soil at the site had to be remediated. To this end, Parsons performed the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Contaminated Soil Management Plan Project.
Construction services included excavating 13,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil. After the soil was excavated, it was loaded into plastic-lined hazardous materials hauling vehicles and hauled off site for disposal. The project included capping the contaminated soil areas with 6,700 square yards of geotextile fabric and a 4-ft layer of quarry spalls or clean fill. Additional soil remediation was required at a corresponding detention pond, buttress, and drain pipe.
For this fast-track project, Parsons successfully excavated, disposed of, and capped the contaminated areas in 3 months. We completed the project on schedule and within budget.
