Project Description
The Rainier Valley Link Light Rail corridor runs through a historic and extremely diverse area with numerous areas of soil contamination. Before the light rail line could be constructed, Parsons was awarded the Rainier Valley Environmental Cleanup Project to address the contaminated soil throughout the 5-mile Rainier Valley corridor.
Parsons provided labor, equipment, and disposal of the hazardous and contaminated materials for the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit). Work on this project included excavation, handling, stockpiling, temporary storage, and disposal of hazardous and contaminated materials (soil, water, and underground storage tanks). Contaminants of concern included petroleum hydrocarbons, vinyl chloride, trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), and metals.
The work involved existing and unknown potentially hazardous or contaminated sites along the light rail alignment.
