CONDITION ASSESSMENT

Because the components of systems and structures do not age uniformly, condition assessments determine which components are in working condition and which may soon need replacement. Assessments allow planning for organized reconstruction, which reduces costs.

Parsons condition assessments services include:

  • Structural integrity
  • Topographic and geographic information system surveys
  • Risk factors analysis
  • Load ratings
  • Metallurgy
  • Mechanical operation
  • Internal inspections and video surveys
  • Adequacy of existing building features (parking, fencing, lighting, sidewalks, windows, doors, plumbing, sewer, HVAC, electrical, and telephones)
  • Compliance with codes and regulations

Our condition assessment experience ranges from the U.S. Navy to local school districts. For the Navy, Parsons met a very aggressive storm sewer condition assessment schedule for the high profile, consent-ordered sewer inspection and rehabilitation services at the Washington Navy Yard. The internal condition of the storm sewers (many of which date from the 1800s) was evaluated with remote-controlled video cameras. Anomalies were identified, inspected in detail, catalogued, and schedule maintenance planned.

For Long Beach Unified School District, we completed assessments for 500 school buildings ranging from 8 to 60 years old. Budgets for the bond election were prepared. Evaluations included occupancy, design, soil conditions, and seismic hazard level.
